I'm wondering what eveyone is working on.  Currently I have a pair of mittens on double pointed needles, an afghan on circular needles, a kitty bed on straight needles and another kitty bed on crochet hooks.  I want to finish up the kitty beds and the afghan.  The mittens were started when I was first learning to knit and the stiches are wonkey so that will be removed and thrown out.  I don't quilt because it requires too much fussiness with seam allowences, etc and I really don't have a good sewing machine.

Anyhow.....what is everyone working on?

I'm cutting out fabric for a spring quilt along. Mine is going to be green and pink. I'm adding 20 more pieces to make mine a little longer.

Here's a link, anybody can join in without commenting or such. http://ihavetosay.typepad.com/randi/2010/02/on-the-road-to-spring-quiltalong-week-one-cutting-the-pieces-for-the-quilt.html

I'm working on a super-soft afghan made out of Homespun:

http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/homespun.htm

It's the apple green.

I'm also cutting out another frayed-edge quilt from plaid flannel, with cream colored flannel as the inner layer. I haven't made a lot of progress on it, but it will be so cuddly when it's done. I really like these frayed-edge quilts since they sew up quickly and require no quilting.

My next-in-line project is an afghan in Southwest colors for DH.

I have a scarf on some knitting needles for a birthday gift for a friend.

I also have a new cotton dishcloth on some needles.  I'm putting a couple of my older dishcloths in the rag bag and making some new ones.

I have about 6 more hand warmers left to sew.  They are machine sewn and filled, I just have to hand sew the opening.

That's it for me right now.  I'm hoping to start on a cross stitched project soon.  Eva inspired me.

I have a headband I am knitting for my niece for her birthday in may, a blanket on circulars that I am nearly finished with (to donate), another blanket I just recently started knitting, I have started cutting up old jeans (that are torn beyond donating) to make a denim quilt, and cutting up torn up t-shirts to make a rug with.  These should keep me busy for a while Smiley .

I have three projects on needles - one is a scarf out of the Deborah Norville chunky yarn - I have made several this year and even had someone want to buy two of them for Christmas gifts.  I also have a summer lacy sweater I am working on out of a Pima Tencel yarn.  I had made an error and went to see my mom yesterday to help get me staightened out so now I am on my way again.  I also have sort of slowed down on another heavier weight sweater out of Classic Elite chunky - I am on the sleeves and then have to sew it together.  I get bored and have to switch off between them.  'Course with the extra 10-20 inches of snow we are predicted to get tonight and tomorrow, I will have plenty of time - I haven't been to work since Friday at noon.Smiley

I am working on a little baby sweater still (even managed some rows on it in the hospital when I was doing the walking after the cesarian).
I just had an idea for a cross stitch project for my husband for valentine's day.  I have the materials, but well.. Valentine's day is within two days...

I'll be free-motioning it on my sewing machine. I've gotten really good at cramming quilts in my 7.75" throat space!  Grin The biggest quilt I've done so far is 98x89 and we sleep under it all the time.

It really helped me when I read that free-motioning on a home machine is 80% positioning and shifting the quilt, and 20% of the time is actually quilting it. A baby quilt typically takes less than 2 hours to free-motion. I anticipate the green and pink one will take 4-5 hours. I do take breaks about every 30-45 minutes.

Eva, how in the world can you manage to knit while walking?  That's truly amazing!  Though I admit to being highly uncoordinated.   Cheesy

Leah, love the quilt colors!

My current project is a skirt for after baby...maybe I'll get a few minutes to work on it today.  I recently finished a baby hat (knit) and blanket (crochet) for our upcoming little guy.

That is amazing that you can knit while walking, I can barely chew gum and walk at the same time. lol.

Well, I usually try to keep one handwork project and one sewing project going at a time. But right now, I have 2 handwork projects, a star shaped baby afghan I'm making for a friend's new little one, and a cross stitch project to frame for my girl's room. My sewing project right now is a new purse and wallet for myself. I've been needing one for quite some time, as mine are falling apart, I'm hoping to start this project today.

Sara-

Would love to see a picture of the star-shaped afghan sometime. Is is knit or crochet?  A friend of mine makes the most beautiful quilted purses - I keep telling her she should sell them at the craft fairs.

Kristi, here's the link to the pattern I'm using. It's crochet, and it's very easy. I'm using a yellow yarn with specks of pink and blue, it's turning out pretty well. I only work on it for about 30 minutes a day, so I still have about half of it to go....http://yarn-diva.blogspot.com/2006/03/free-star-shaped-afghan-pattern.html

I was thinking of making myself a rag quilt purse like the one here...http://henriettashandbags.com/Rag_Bag_Tote.pdf There's a picture at the bottom. And the wallet pattern is one I got from www.sewthankful.com

I'll try to post a picture of it all when I'm done.  Smiley

*LOL* The reason I took up knitting is that I read in this book about the pioneers women and later generations and how they knit on every little scrap of time, or while doing other things.  I couldn't do that with embroidery.  I learned to knit easily while walking after Joseph.  I think using circulars as straights helps because you don't need to keep the second needle clamped under your arm.  And I have actually knitted a little bit while nursing in the middle of the night..

I make the disclaimer that
a. I could NOT have done that with Joseph.  It really depends on which baby you have.
b. I have a lot of help at the moment.  Which means that my only responsibility is to take care of Michael, and not even that alone.  While I am recovering from the C section I can't do nothing, but I can't do anything strenuous.  So a needle of knitting here and there does the trick.

Today, I started on Michael's baptismal stole.  The only thing I did though, before you are impressed, is do some straight seaming on it on the machine.  I gave up the idea of hand embroidering on it, and will just machine sew a cross on it tonight and consider it finished.

Sounds like I am the black sheep.  LMSO  Everyone else is working on sewing, crocheting or knitting it looks like.    I am working on 3 recipe scrapbooks.  One is for a friend to be given as soon as it is done.  The remaining 2 are for Christmas presents.  I almost have two of them done......YEAH!

After these are finished I will start on my sewing again.  I have quilt top I need to get quilted and then will start in on the aprons I am making the sisters and neices for Christmas.

I loved hearing about everyone's projects, and can't wait to see more of them.  Leah, the quilt top is just gorgeous!!!

I am crocheting an afghan for a Christmas gift.  I have my son's wedding gift on stretcher bars,  a needlepoint point piece on stretcher bars for me and I am finishing WIPs in cross stitching.  The afghan is by my chair in the living room so as I watch TV I can work on it.  This is the second one I have done this year like this.  I have three needlepoint pieces going so that ds or his fiancee do not see it and when dd is home I can work on mine so she doesn't see hers.  With the cross stitching I have about a dozen WIPS that I am trying to finish by the end of the year.

Jennie,

He was to be married December 30, 2010.  Now they are getting married December 30, 2011.

My son has quite a bit of debt and won't finish school until August so they decided that it would be better to wait then to start married life in debt.  Smart really.  He is 22 and she is 19.  One more year won't kill either of them and it gives me longer to work on this piece.

thank you for asking.

I'm sure they will be glad (in the long run) to be debt-free before marrying. I think a December wedding is just beautiful. They'll have so much fun planning.  Smiley Are you making a needlepoint? What's it like? I'm sure they will treasure it!
