I have my list made and I'll check it against leftover seed from last year then I'll have it ready to go in the mail (or online) next week.

I have decided to order from Bakers Creek again.  I had wonderful luck with everything with the exception of the Swiss Chard last year.  I'm also planning to start my own tomato and pepper seeds in the sun room this year.  We may have to heat it, but it will be worth it.  We will be another step closer to growing a high percentage of our own food.

Sherrie, I haven't ordered yet but I have my mental list ready. I'm so looking forward to Spring!!

I want to try some different varieties of greens this year. Last year I just grew loose leaf lettuce. Very good, but I would like to grow some other things which would "jazz up" the salads.

Any suggestions?

I ordered from Heirloom Seeds:

Lima Beans
Tomato mix (big, cherry, and roma seeds)
Lettuce mix
Jalepeno peppers
cauliflower
brocolli
brusell sprouts
Rainbow Chard
zuchinni
yellow squash
spoon gourds (youngest son wants to make spoons)

Already have from last year:

winter squash (pumpkin, spaghetti, butternut)
bell pepper
pinto beans
green beans
cucumber
radish
marigolds
spinach
kale

I think that is it...

I needed so little that I didn't "order" this year, but just picked up a few packets at the store.  I finally found someone in my area who actually has success gardening (well, 30 miles away, figure that counts!) and she has used Ferry and Morse organic seeds.  I never had really thought "organic" mattered on seeds as long as they aren't GMO, but am willing to try something different as my gardens haven't been great, so got those.

Bought:
Broccoli
Carrots
A new lettuce
Pansy seeds
Something else I can't remember.   Tongue

We'll see how they do compared to the seeds I've been using (some I was given, and some from Heirloom Acres---terribly slow customer service last year so I wouldn't order from them again anyway).  Not expecting miracles, but maybe hoping!   Wink

Catherine, what is the new lettuce that you're trying? I'm looking for new greens this year. Last year I had loose leaf lettuce, and I want to try something new this year.

I may have given the wrong impression; it's just "new" to me for planting. It's Paris Island Cos romaine.  I've only done loose leaf before as well, but like the crunch of romaine so decided to give it a whirl.

I knew what you meant ("new" to you). I'll take a look at the romaine you mentioned. Just trying to get some ideas which will add variety to our salads.

Thanks!

I checked our seed collection left over from last year, and we won't need any seeds this year except
  pole beans.
I was thanful for that since we don't have the funds this year for a seed catalog order.
I just hope and pray the seeds I have are still good and will germinate.

When we do order,we order from Shumways.

I got my seed box out today and discovered that I only have to order bush beans, tomaato and pepper seeds.  I'm all set for everything else.  I think I'm going to invest in a seed starter light and heat mat to help the little seedlings grow strong and tall.

 I ordered from Johnny's:

-Fortex beans because I've heard they are stringless and my Kentucky Wonder beans had terrible strings last year.
-Lipstick red peppers I've heard they are very sweet and yummy.  I also have some Pablano pepper seeds from last year and some King of the North but I'm not sure I'm going to plant the King of the North because a local farm stand had regular peppers for $.25 and I don't know if I want to devote garden space if I can buy them that cheap.
-Churchill Brussell's Sprouts.  They are a hybrid but I'm hoping they will actually grow for me.
-A late storage cabbage
-King Richard leeks but they are back ordered.  I love leeks and want to try to grow them.
-A black cherry tomato.  I have Souix tomato seeds I saved from a friend who's been growing them since the 40's, I think and a huge, yummy tomato that I ordered from Baker Creek 2 years ago called Granny Cantrell.  I think I will scale back the tomatoes this year because I can buy them locally pretty economically to can.

I bought broccoli seeds at Menard's and I have seeds for lettuce, chard, kale and beets.  I planted garlic from I Grow Garlic in October and I will buy onions, potatoes and asparagus in the Spring locally.

Sadly, we've decided not to grow a garden this year and concentrate on the work that has to be done around here at the new house.
